Climbing
Why does anybody want to climb. Many people, most elderly though, say that if we were meant to climb we would be better equipped for that. That is a boooring opinion. We were not meant either for driving cars but still we do. I will present my views on climbing here, both emotional and practical….
Climbing indoors
In Sweden and even some other countries we have something cold called winter. It brings something white and wet called snow which makes it difficult to climb outdoors. If you´re not a suicidal iceclimber. Therefore humanity has made artificial places to climb indoors. Its in a safe, controled environment, climbing on toprope. Its not the same as climbing outdoors, but its a way of keeping up and even improving your strength during the winter. It´s ok I guess.
Climbing outdoors
In my opinion it’s up to each and every climber to take the risks they feel comfortable with. Some people are happy with climbing on toprope outdoors and others do soloclimbing at several hundred meters high crags. However these people don’t seem to be around for so long….
Toprope: The first summer after I started climbing indoors I climbed a lot outdoors on toprope. The idea is that you somehow have to get to the top before and arrange an ancor for your toprope. (I should insert a picture here). Then it’s sort of the same principle as indoors. The belayer usually stands at the bottom of the crag, belaying the climber.
